Presented by the Sierra Pacific Synod Hunger Network

Learn how faith and environmental justice are intertwined in a hungry world!  This hunger  education workshop, by the Sierra Pacific Synod Hunger Network, explores the life-saving work of the ELCA Hunger and Disaster Appeals, how climate change and other environmental issues impact world and domestic hunger and how you can learn to be an effective advocate for our fragile planet.  We are willing to present a parallel children’s program upon request

¨ Speaker, Pastor Dan Smith: Pastor Dan is currently serving as pastor at Lutheran Church of the Incarnation, Davis, CA.  Dan’s Doctoral Dissertation is entitled, “Toward a Lutheran Theology of Nature: An Ecological Ethics of the Cross.”  One of his great concerns and passions is helping the church go green and move toward a more sustainable way of living with the planet. 

¨ Speaker, Ruth Ivory-Moore: ‎Ruth is Program Director, for Environment and Energy at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).  She is responsible for guiding and carrying out the church’s public witness on international climate change issues; and domestic issues related to the environment , energy, agriculture, food production, and rural development. 

¨ Rev. Eileen Smith Levan calls us to action with thought-provoking Bible Study.

¨ Rev. Jason Bense will also lead us in closing worship.  

¨ Asante Fair-Trade Products will be available for Christmas shopping! 

Offering at closing worship will be to the ELCA Hunger Appeal.  Make offering checks to ELCA Hunger Appeal.  An optional social hour follows.  Only $10 for the day, including lunch; no charge for congregational hunger contacts, college students or seminarians.  If you take AMTRAK California, rides to the workshop will be provided.
